My terrorists: rich old white guys

I barely recognize the United States today.  How did we squander a society based on freedom, equality and inclusion?

Our government has become a tool for rich, conservative, white males and their companies, which pull in obscene amounts of money for them off the sweat and blood of the masses working for them for below poverty wages.

When did gun rights trump the right to live, let alone live in any sense of peace and well being?

How can they take the billions of dollars we pay in taxes and spend them on the military?  And NOT spend them on social programs and infrastructure, which is what I THOUGHT I was paying them for.

Remember the Declaration of Independence?

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…”

I have never given my consent for this to happen.

  1. Sadly, the founding of this country has *always* been about privileging white wealthy (land-owning) men, while disenfranchising and even enslaving everyone else. Members of the Black and Native American community have known this since long before the Declaration of Independence. Even women were “given” the right to vote fairly recently…

    To learn more about the inherent racism and white land-owning male privilege built into the founding of this country, look for a book and video by white attorney Jacqueline Battalora (sp), “Birth of a White Nation,” as well as work being done for a Truth & Conciliation Commission by Native American activist and educator Mark Charles.
